My name is Maria Laila Fernandez. I am an actress born in Argentina, and moved to Porto San Giorgio, Italy. I am 35 years old, bilingual in Italian and Spanish, and fluent in English.
After many years of studying dance (acrobatic rock’n’roll, boogie-woogie, and classical ballet) and music, I graduated from the School of the Teatro Stabile delle Marche and later from the School of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa, under the guidance of master director Luca Ronconi. These formative experiences profoundly shaped my approach to the stage.
In theatre, I performed in Ronconi’s final production immediately after completing my studies: The Lehman Trilogy, written by Stefano Massini. I subsequently starred in major productions throughout Italy, collaborating with highly esteemed directors and performing on the stages of theatres such as the Piccolo di Milano, the Nazionale di Roma, the Bellini in Naples, the Nazionale di Genova, the Stabile di Torino, ERT, and the Greek Theatre of Syracuse—an enchanting historic venue that hosts up to 5,000 spectators per evening. I have received personal recognitions including the Hystrio Award for Vocation and the INDA Foundation Award.
My professional career moves fluidly between theatre and cinema. I have worked on several film sets, including Stolen Girl, directed by James Kent, alongside Kate Beckinsale and Scott Eastwood. I have recently completed filming Ritorno a Buenos Aires, the new film by Marco Bechis, alongside Adriano Giannini and Ana Celentano. I have also collaborated on the international series Maradona: Sueño Bendito, working as an acting coach, assistant director, and translator alongside directors Edoardo De Angelis and Alejandro Aimetta.
I love working with voice and body and continue to explore biomechanics applied to acting.
