Sofia Longhini is an Italian actress, playwright, and performer. She trained at the Nico Pepe Academy of Dramatic Arts in Udine, where she graduated in 2023. She was born in a small seaside town and currently lives in Bologna. She earned her Bachelor’s degree with honours in Modern Literature, with a thesis exploring the relationship between the poetic language of Mariangela Gualtieri and the scenic language of Teatro Valdoca, with whom Sofia worked as a performer in the Giuramenti trilogy.
She later completed a Master’s degree in Italian Studies, European Literary Languages, and Linguistic Sciences at the University of Bologna, where she published a thesis focused on pedagogy and theatre, connecting the work of children’s writer Gianni Rodari with Walter Benjamin’s Program for a Proletarian Children’s Theatre, which outlines the pedagogical path of Latvian educator Asja Lācis with Russian street children during the 1917 Revolution.
Sofia developed her practice as a playwright and actress through training with leading figures such as Marco Baliani, Mario Perrotta, Teatro Sotterraneo, Kepler 452 and Daria Deflorian, with whom she created the performance Fiamme Verdi, inspired by the novel The Vegetarian by Nobel Prize Han Kang.
She works in television and film, including on the series We Are Who We Are by Luca Guadagnino.
In theatre, she collaborates with nationally renowned companies as well as on personal projects such as her solo performance Tutte le cose più grandi di me, which explores the relationship between biography and current events, and Fracasso, that investigates contradictions within the Italian police forces.
She was awarded an artistic residency at the National Theatre of Nicosia (THOC) as part of the European project Theatre in Palm.
She has studied contemporary dance with Julie Stanzak of the Pina Bausch Company and with Maguy Marin and Ulises Alvarez at Teatro Due in Parma.
She speaks English at B2 level and has a basic knowledge of Spanish.
